If you're seeking basic, no-frills typing software, look no further than TypingMaster Pro. This program delivers all of the essentials you need to improve your keyboarding skills, including an accumulative curriculum, timed tests and accuracy training. While the application doesn't offer much beyond that, TypingMaster Pro does boast a few features – including its unique Satellite feature – that make it worth looking into.
This typing software teaches accurate touch-typing through progressive, step-by-step lessons. You learn the home keys (A, S, D, F on the left hand and J, K, L, ; on the right hand, and both thumbs for the spacebar), and how to type efficiently while not looking at the keyboard. The software utilizes a virtual keyboard to illustrate proper finger movement and timed typing tests to evaluate your typing speed.
The standout feature of this typing software is what the application calls Satellite. When enabled, the tool analyzes your typing while you use computer programs outside of TypingMaster Pro. This is beneficial because you can evaluate your typing skills while you perform everyday computer tasks. The tool then identifies keys, words and letter chains that are problem areas for you and suggests exercises to complete in the typing software to improve those areas. You can also choose any drill and test in the software to work on a specific typing weakness.
TypingMaster Pro earns a spot on our lineup because it delivers effective touch-typing instruction. However, there are a few noticeable drawbacks to this typing software. During typing tests, the application underscores the word you are typing. When you type quickly, this underlining element sometimes does not move fast enough from one word to the next, which seems to defeat the purpose of this feature.
The other issue we have with this typing program is its outdated interface. Compared to other typing programs on our lineup, TypingMaster Pro looks antiquated and obsolete. Its lack of polish doesn't necessarily affect its usability or effectiveness, but with so many typing programs that are more modern, the outdated interface hinders TypingMaster Pro's appeal.
