Now in its sixth version, Photoshop goes well beyond tools for touching up digital photographs. It has an abundance of Web graphics features, including Adobe ImageReady, and vector drawing tools. Meanwhile, Photoshop's real strength—image editing—is more solid than ever, and a new interface has cleaned up some of the clutter. The Tool Options bar, for example, keeps common options available without being obtrusive. Yet this isn't a product for the uninitiated. If you want wizards for automatically removing red eye, turn to the program's $99 scaled-down sibling, Photoshop Elements.
Photoshop's effects are superb, and the latest version includes some fun additions, such as the Liquify command (for warping images). The outstanding library of brushes and brush textures makes painting fun and flexible. And support for up to 8,000 layers lets you color-code and group layers to organize complex projects.
